Who It’s For

An open fireplace sends most of its heat up the chimney. You want it to heat the room instead. The HearthStone GMI 70 is for the fireplace you already have. Leave it open and it keeps costing you heat every winter.

What Makes It Special

The cast iron front of the GMI 70 is designed to fit flush with your hearth for a clean, elegant look, and the firebox is lined with soapstone.

It is a non-catalytic insert with a single-lever air control: burn hot and fast, or low and slow through the night. A convection blower is included.

Soapstone absorbs the heat of the fire and radiates a gentle, long-lasting warmth that warms the objects in the room, not just the air.

Possible Downsides

• It is a wood fire. You load it, tend it, and carry out the ash.

If you want real wood heat from the fireplace you already have, the HearthStone GMI 70 is the right decision. On the coldest night, the house is warm and the fire is the reason.
