Heat & Glo: Exclaim 36

Real logs, real crackle, and a fireplace you finish with the brick pattern you pick.

Quick Facts

• Heating Capacity: Designed for ambiance, not as a heat source.
• Viewing Area: 36″ wide and 28 1/2″ tall.
• Fuel: Wood.
• Fan: None

Who It’s For

Some evenings call for the smell of oak and the sound of a log settling, and no switch on the wall gives you that. You want a true wood fire in a new home or an addition, sized for a family room rather than a great room. The Exclaim 36 is the open wood fireplace for that room. You get the fire people gather around on a cold night; just know it is there for the experience more than for heating the house.

What Makes It Special

You choose the interior. The firebox ships bare, and you finish it with a herringbone or traditional refractory set in natural gray, masonry brown, or black onyx, so the inside of the fire matches the stone or tile on your wall.

It comes ready for everyday use: a steel grate, a safety firescreen, and an outside air kit are in the box. If you ever want to switch to gas, the firebox has knockouts for a gas line, and the price book offers burners and cement log sets made for it.

Possible Downsides

• The refractory interior is a required, separate purchase. Plan on choosing one set when you order.
• An open wood fire sends most of its heat up the chimney. For heat you can live on, a wood stove or insert is the better tool.

If you want a real wood fire in a 36-inch opening and the freedom to pick its brick, the Exclaim 36 is the right decision. Saturday nights start with a match and end with embers.

Pick herringbone or traditional refractory in three colors, then add stainless or black bi-fold glass doors, Grand Vista mesh cabinet doors, a gas burner with a cement log set, a hearth extension, and a Fillmore, Ozark, or non-combustible mantel shelf.
