Heat & Glo: Royal Hearth 42

The Royal Hearth look, six inches wider, for a fire that fills the wall.

Quick Facts

• Heating Capacity: Designed for ambiance, not as a heat source.
• Viewing Area: 42″ wide and 21″ tall.
• Fuel: Wood.
• Fan: None

Who It’s For

A long, low fire suits a wide room with a sofa that faces it head on. The 36-inch model can look narrow on a big wall. The Royal Hearth 42 keeps the same gray stacked brick interior and ready-to-use package but stretches the opening to 42 inches. Choose it for a family room or a living room with a wide sitting area, where a broader fire reads better from every seat.

What Makes It Special

The extra width gives you room for longer splits or, if you add gas, a 24-inch or 30-inch burner with a fuller log set.

Finishing options scale up too: Acadia, Battlefield, and other flush wood mantels in the larger size, 72-inch shelf mantels, and granite, marble, or slate facing so the hearth matches the room.

Possible Downsides

• The opening is 21 inches tall. A taller fire calls for the Rutherford or Exclaim.
• Like any open fireplace, it trades heat for atmosphere.

If your wall is wide and you want a fire to match it, the Royal Hearth 42 is the right decision. The whole sofa gets a front-row seat.

Add black or stainless bi-fold glass doors, a gas burner with fiber or cement logs, an outside air kit, a heat wrap blanket, a hearth extension, a flush wood mantel and base, a shelf mantel, and stone facing.
