Fireplace Inserts: A modern update with traditional charm

Whether you have lived in your home for decades or you are a recent, first-time homebuyer, you may be lucky enough to enjoy the aesthetic of a gorgeous, original fireplace—but has the maintenance become a nuisance or has the style become too outdated?

At AES Hearth & Patio, we sell, install, and maintain fireplace inserts to offer you a modern-style heating appliance with an air of classic charm. Learn more about what fireplace inserts are and how to maintain them for years to come.

What is a fireplace insert?

A fireplace insert is an actual heating appliance that is often placed into an existing, traditional wood-burning fireplace mantle.

You have four (4) core insert options:

  • Wood
  • Pellet
  • Gas
  • Electric

AES offers a variety of brands, including energy-saving models. Our wood inserts are updated, as opposed to the older, less-efficient fireplaces of the past. Pellet inserts are better for the environment, in that they use a by-product that normally would be discarded, and they also tend to be more cost-effective. Gas inserts and electric inserts are quite energy-efficient and the resources are abundant, as you likely utilize electricity in your house for other devices (television, lights, etc.) and maybe even gas for your furnace or kitchen stove.

It’s also important to understand efficiency when it comes to your heating type. Upgrading your system may cause sticker shock at first, but don’t fret—what you don’t see is the long-term savings and efficiency these upgraded units provide. On average, with proper maintenance, a fireplace insert can last between 20 and 30 years.

How to clean a fireplace insert

You might keep a brush and dustpan near your fireplace for an occasional cleaning (especially for wood-burning units) or give it an occasional dusting on the mantle. However, for a thorough cleaning, it is best not to clean an insert on your own.

Just like a traditional fireplace, these appliances should be inspected and serviced to keep it working year after year. This can include annual cleanings, troubleshooting, and repairs for the brands we carry. We work with specific brands, and our technicians are professionally trained in all the manufacturers that we sell.

If you didn’t buy your insert from us, no worries! As long as it’s one of the brands we carry, we can help you clean and service your insert after an inspection.

You also will want to get your chimney inspected and cleaned annually to prevent any buildup and damage. For new customers, we perform a Level 2 inspection along with annual repairs and cleanings.
